He...the guy I'm now head over heels in love with (even though he wears yellow underpants) is a "Western Tanager".
Isn't he just dreamy?
Unfortunately I couldn't capture him on my own camera because he's a shy guy so I grabbed this image from "Google images". But I just had to show you who was in my backyard today...
{I'd give credit to the photographer but there wasn't a name on the image}
(Wikipedia's description of this hansom little fellow)
"Adults have pale stout pointed bills, yellow underparts and light wing bars. Adult males have a bright red face and a yellow nape, shoulder, and rump, with black upper back, wings, and tail; in non-breeding plumage the head has no more than a reddish cast and the body has an olive tinge. Females have a yellow head and are olive on the back, with dark wings and tail.
These birds are often out of sight, foraging high in trees, sometimes flying out to catch insects in flight. They mainly eat insects, fruits and berries. At times they offer spectacular views, and in much of their range, when a non-birder tells a birder, "I saw the most amazing bird!" the birder can guess it was a male of this species"
"I love it..."yellow underpants" I never thought that could sound cute!
Isn't he beautiful?!? What a pretty little bird to see out your window. I don't see a lot of pretty birds in my backyard except for one day we had a bald eagle in our tree! Now that was cool! What a sweet little visitor for you and who knew yellow underpants could look so good!
ReplyDeleteYou're right, Terry, How wonderfully handsome is your little feathered friend! Glad I got to see a pic of him after all your exclamations over the phone. So good to talk to you! Love you sister-friend, Lori

Good Morning Terry:
ReplyDeleteI love the piture of your beautiful yellow underpants friend. I use to feed the birds when we lived in Minnesota but down here the birds are not that colorful I do miss that part of wildlife...

Hi Terry! What a gorgeous bird! I'd trade him over a rattle snake any old day!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog and I'm enjoying visiting yours! Love it!!! Aunt Betty and Uncle Arnold hold special places in my heart. Give them my love! I hope someday I can meet you face to face; until then, I'll have fun getting to know you through "bloggy world"! Have a great weekend. ~Teri
You always were a sucker for any guy in gawdy underpants! :)
ReplyDeleteYou lucky girl - even though we live in the same neighborhood, we've only seen 3 of these guys in our 25 years here.
The last time one was on the deck was the ONLY time I've ever heard my husband for a loss of words. All he could do was point & sputter!

Ohh! What a cute birdy! I love it's pretty colors! Especially the yellow!
ReplyDeleteYou and Mark have the most interesting birds come by to visit.
ReplyDeleteI read the comment from Teri, how exciting. It might be worth a trip to Texas to visit and meet Mark and your cousin.
Bye love MIL
wouldn't that be fun!
