These are a few of my favorite things...

Its Vintage Thingie Thursday again at Coloradolady.
Thank you Suzanne for hosting another great VTT!

This has always been one of my favorite rooms in my home and these are but a few of my favorite things that live in there. My vintage sewing machine and sewing memorabilia collection. This is for no other reason than to just see...and enjoy...that's what I do when I go in this sweet little room:)

My Mother in law, Betty gave me this beautiful old black and white photo of her own mother, Erma sitting at a treadle sewing machine she won at the Minnesota state fair in September 1923. That's her on the left in this photo. My MIL shared with me that she and her three sisters all learned to sew on this machine as young girls. What sweet memories this old photo holds of a time so long ago.
I am now honored to have this photo in my sewing room sitting on my own treadle machine...
The above picture was given to me as a "house warming" gift when the sewing room was completely done by my friend Joan!

Hope you enjoyed my little vignettes...thanks for stopping by for another VTT!

  6. Terry-

Your sewing room looks like it stepped right off the cover of a magazine! I love the way you're using your California job case for thimbles, bobbins and thread display... what a perfect use for it! I can only dream of such a big, gorgeous room with so much storage and display areas. And those miniature sewing machines are SO cute! :-)

  10. Thanks Terry. My mother was a wonderful seamstress. She once took one of my father's old suits apart and made a suit with a jacket and skirt for herself. That sewing machine was used during the depression, making clothes with the printed flour sacks, every one did at that time. A niece now has it. Much love MIL

  11. Hi Terry..All I know about our Mothers sewing machine is that she won it and I was lucky enough to learn to sew on that machine. I also remember playing around on it and having the needle go into my finger Mother was not to happy with me as that machine was off limits to us until she taught us how to use it. My first project was a hot pad. I also made a skirt to take to the county fair where I got 2nd prize because mother had me piece something on the skirt so I got mark down for that. Mother was very saving. Toms daughter now has the machine. Aunt Marie

  24. Terry, don't know how I miss this post earlier in the week. How fun it is to see your sewing room. Absolutely love the quote. One could substitute "dishes" for fabric and it would be my husband talking. LOL
Of course, fabric is the running too. I'm enchanted with all your little sewing machines. I wish I had the one that once belonged to my MIL, but it disappeared when she closed up housekeeping. Have no idea where it is.
Thanks for sharing this fabulous space. ~ Sarah

  25. Hello Terry,
I've been so busy, but I'm catching up. This post is absolutely charming.
I started to sew when I was 13 out of resentment of having to wear my sisters hand-me-downs. But a room like yours can only be born out of the love of sewing, not the resentment of it. I guess I have a love/hate relationship with sewing. The old photograph is priceless.
